Firgas, Molino del Conde Working Gofio Mill, Barranco de Azuaje Ravine Hike & Picnic; Tapas

Board the coach at the pier for the 40-minute drive through beautiful mountain scenery to the historic town of Firgas, nicknamed "La Villa del Agua" due to its sparkling mineral water and healing springs. Take a guided tour through its historic center and see the town's 16th-century gofio mill. Also known as the Count's Mill, it is powered by an irrigation channel, unlike Gran Canaria's more common wind-powered mills. The tastefully restored complex, which is still in use, includes the old grain storehouse, roasting oven and miller's house.

Descend into the ravine of Azuaje for the circular hike through its surprisingly lush vegetation and observe the many endemic plant species that your guide will point out. These include some traces of the former "Selva de Doramas", huge laurel forests named after the 15th-century native hero Doramas. Azuaje nature reserve is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful locations on the island, with stunning areas of forest and spectacular ravines where water flows throughout the year. Stop for a light picnic on the way before resuming your walk and returning to Firgas.

Back in the town, sit at a bar and enjoy a traditional Canarian tapa before re-boarding the coach for the drive back to the pier.
