Indulge your senses with the exquisite beauty and flavours of Bordeaux during a sightseeing excursion through the Old Town, and a tour and tasting at nearby vineyards. Bordeaux, in the south-west of France, needs little introduction to anyone with an interest in wine. One of the world's most prolific wine regions, it also manages to rank amongst the most famous and prestigious.
Bordeaux Old Town
Depart the pier for the approximate one-hour sightseeing drive through the Old Town of Bordeaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the Palais Rohan (now the City Hall or Hôtel de Ville), Place Gambetta and Place Tourny, which offers a view of the lovely, late 18th-century Grand Theatre. From here, pass by the 14th-century Cailhau Gate, the impressive Grosse Cloche from the English period and the former belfry of the Town Hall from the Middle Ages.
Vineyards
Your drive continues on to one of the many nearby vineyards that surround Bordeaux, that are on the outskirts, in the north that starts the Medoc appellation region, or towards the south on the left bank of the Garonne river, in the Graves Pessac-Leognan Appellation. These vineyards are the oldest in all of Bordeaux and have exported wine for centuries. Next, proceed to one of the wine estate.
Winery Tour
Upon arrival, take a guided wine cellar tour followed by a tasting at a wine château. Following your visit enjoy some free time browse the wine gift shop before commence the approximate 30-minute drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour requires a minimal amount of walking, and is suitable for guests with limited mobility, but not for guests who utilise a wheelchair. However, there may be steps and/or stairs to negotiate at the wine château. Guests must be at least 21 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. A minimum number of participants per guide are required to operate this programme.
