Walk through the tropical forest to Katanzama village

Upon arrival, a community guide will lead you through a lush tropical forest to the Katanzama indigenous village, nestled in a beautiful seaside setting. You’ll walk around the community with the local leader, gaining insights into Arhuaco traditions, culture, cuisine, and daily life. Visit plantations to learn about their crops and agricultural tools.

Next, gather in a sacred space under a tree where “Mamo,” the spiritual leader, will conduct a short indigenous ceremony and meditation, offering a meaningful connection to their spiritual practices. After a brief visit to the local school, enjoy a delicious traditional “Sancocho” stew for lunch, with an opportunity to learn about weaving techniques used for making indigenous backpacks.

Before heading back, visit local plantations and participate in planting your own endemic tree, leaving a lasting mark of your experience. Conclude your visit with a walk back to the bus and a scenic drive return to the ship.

Please note: This moderately active excursion includes a 2.5 km / 1.5 mi nature walk each way to reach Katanzama, plus additional walking while touring the village. Unpaved, uneven surfaces and some mud will typically be encountered. The tour is not suitable for those who utilise a wheelchair or have limited mobility. Guests must be in good physical health and able to walk at a gentle pace under warm/hot conditions. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and closed-toe walking shoes; bring along your preferred sun and insect protection and some USD in small bills for craft purchasing and community support. A coconut water welcome drink and traditional sancocho stew lunch with sugar cane lemonade are included. Special dietary restrictions may be accommodated with at least 48 hrs advance notice. The order of sights and activities may vary.
