Excursion Kokomana factory tour tour at Savusavu

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

KokoMana offers an insightful journey into the art of chocolate-making, set amidst towering raintrees in a tranquil forested valley just a few miles from Savusavu town. The lush landscape features meticulously maintained cocoa trees arranged within a vibrant agroforestry system that includes over thirty other species of trees and shrubs, promoting a healthier environment and the cultivation of exquisite-flavor cocoa.

Guides share their knowledge of Pacific crops and the intricate workings of this sustainable system, illustrating how it benefits both the land and the production of premium chocolate. Guests will have the opportunity to taste the sweet, fruity pulp of a ripe cocoa pod and gain an understanding of the captivating transformation process - an exquisite blend of culinary artistry and scientific precision, transforming beans into fine chocolate.

From fermentation to the final act of hand-tempering molten chocolate on a traditional stone slab, each step is explained in detail, culminating in the creation of glossy, perfectly snap-worthy chocolate bars. Guests can indulge in tasting the diverse flavors and may purchase this handcrafted chocolate to enjoy at home, a delicious memento of this unique experience.

Note

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking for approximately 55 yards (about 50 meters), at times over wooden walkways and some small inclines with few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, bottled water and credit cards or local currency for purchases from the ship. The tour sequence may vary. Fiji is a low-income country with very basic infrastructure, and vastly different to the western culture mentality. Local conditions may be challenging; therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Coaches, guides, hotels, restaurants, equipment, and services are the best-available in the area, but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions. We thank you for your understanding.
