Excursion A day in the pampas tour at Buenos Aires

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Embrace the exquisite beauty and flavours of the Argentinean 'Pampas' during this relaxing, full-day visit to the Estancia Rosario de Areco (or Similar). The Pampas of South America are a grassland biome. They are flat, fertile plains that cover an area of 300,000 sq. miles (777,000 sq. Kilometers), from the Atlantic Ocean to the Andes Mountains. It is found primarily in Argentina and extends into Uruguay.

San Antonio de Areco

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximate 2-2.25-hour drive to the charming town of San Antonio de Areco, located 70 miles (112 kilometres) northwest of Buenos Aires. San Antonio de Areco is recognised as the centre of the 'Pampas' tradition and land of the 'gaucho', one of the cultural symbols of Argentina. Farms, or 'estancias', form the rural backbone of Argentina; these grand estates raise cattle and farm horses for sport, mainly polo.

Upon arrival at the Estancia Rosario de Areco, you are greeted by the owners with a traditional welcome of 'empanadas', or small meat pies, accompanied by local wine or juice. Following a restroom stop, take a tour of the 'estancia' before sitting down to a traditional barbecue lunch and dessert, with entertainment provided by local dancers. After lunch, watch a folkloric 'gaucho' show and typical ring race, or 'Carrera de Sortijas'.

Your tour concludes with some free time at your leisure. Afterward, re-board the coach and commence the approximate 2-2.25-hour return drive to the pier. A restroom stop is made en route.
