San Francisco, Pier 33, Ferry-Ride, Alcatraz Island

Depart the pier for the short stroll to Pier 33. Upon arrival, embark your awaiting ferry for the picturesque ride to Alcatraz Island, located in the middle of San Francisco Bay. En route, marvel at the city skyline and Golden Gate Bridge. Upon arrival at 'The Rock', disembark the ferry and take a walk (approximately 0.25-mile - about 0.4 kilometre) along the steep roads and walkways leading up to this infamous former penitentiary. The elevation change is approximately 130 feet (about 40 meters), the equivalent of walking up a 13-storey building.

Self-Guided Visit, Cellhouse, Gift Shoppe

Upon arrival, you can tour the Cellhouse at your own pace, listening to the audio: Doing Time: The Alcatraz Cellhouse Tour. "Stop to picture yourself in a dark solitary confinement cell, hear the stories of life inside from real prisoners, and feel the intensity of a prison breakout from correctional officers who lived and worked on the Island." During your self-guided tour, you can also browse for souvenirs at the onsite gift shoppe.

Ferry-Ride, Scenic Drive, Sausalito, Free Time, Shopping

Following your visit, walk back down to the ferry for the short ride back to San Francisco. Upon arrival, board your coach for the scenic drive to sunny Sausalito. Upon arrival, some free time is made available for shopping and independent exploration in this lovely seaside village. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 1.5 miles (about 2.4 kilometres), at times over uneven and cracked concrete surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and embark/disembark the ship, and about 200 steps at Alcatraz Island. Walking in Sausalito is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, a sweater or light jacket, bottled water, and US Dollars or credit cards for purchases from the ship. Guests must be at least 21 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. The tour sequence may vary. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
