Excursion Come with me to the casbah tour at Algiers

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Get a window onto the rich history and culture of Algiers on this tour is inspired by the legendary Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamar movie. Experience what it must have been like when the UNESCO Casbah was the heart of the city.

Board your coach and drive through the city center as your guide points out the major landmarks. Stop you near the King's Palace in the higher Casbah and walk a short distance to a little café where a hostess welcomes you to enjoy a glass of mint tea and typical local biscuits while taking time to absorb the atmosphere.

Walk down the steps to the lower part of the Casbah. There is ample time to stroll and take some unforgettable photographs of the play of light in this maze of narrow passages. Linger on the unique angles created by the protruding balconies held up by a series of wooden poles, the tiny workshops tucked away in the allies producing a variety of things such as wooden furniture, brass items or shoes and the lively children playing with anything they get their hands on.

Next, proceed down to Martyrs' Square where you can see three Mosques including the recently restored Ketchaoua Mosque, once a Church. Throughout the tour, feel the closeness of the buildings and enjoy the sweeping view of the old medina of Algiers.

Your coach awaits you for the short return trip to the port and ship.
