Excursion E-bike adventure in fakarava tour at Fakarava

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore the enchanting northern reaches of Fakarava on this 8-mile / 13-km eco-friendly cycling adventure. Beginning in the village of Rotoava, your journey follows the coral-lined paths of this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve to the historic Topaka Lighthouse (aka “The Pyramid of Fakarava”), built in the 1930s, this distinctive pyramid-shaped lighthouse served as a crucial navigation marker for ships entering Garuae Pass, the largest pass in French Polynesia.

You’ll then “pedal” effortlessly on your electric bike along both the reef and lagoon sides of the atoll as your guide offers insights into daily life on this remote isle, home to a population of only about 850 people, most of them involved in pearl farming, copra production, or tourism.

Your journey includes a stop at the historic Church of Saint John of the Cross (Église de Jean de la Croix), a remarkable example of Tuamotu architecture where coral stones and lime were ingeniously used to create a sanctuary that has withstood decades of tropical weather.

This guided experience offers a perfect blend of exercise and exploration, with the e-bike's gentle assistance ensuring a comfortable ride even in tropical conditions. Capture photographs of daily island life, discover hidden beaches, and gain authentic insights into how communities thrive on this remote coral atoll.
