Excursion Öland royal tour tour at Borgholm

Explore the castles and churches of the Swedish Royal Family during this memorable, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Borgholm, Öland Island and Bridge, Räpplinge Church

Depart the pier for the short drive to the Räpplinge Church. Öland is approximately 85 miles (about 137 kilometres) in length and approximately ten miles (about 16 kilometres) wide. The island has been connected to the mainland by the approximately 3.7-mile-long (about six-kilometre-long) Öland Bridge since 1973, and is the summer residence of the Swedish Royal Family. Upon arrival, a brief visit is made to the church, which dates from the mid-12th century and has two chairs that can only be used by the Royal Family.

Störlinge Windmills, Gärdslösa Church, Solliden Castle

Next, re-board your coach and proceed to the old Störlinge Windmills, the 18th-century windmills typical of Öland. After a photo stop here, re-board your coach and continue on to the Gärdslösa Church, Öland's best-preserved medieval church. Following an inside visit, re-board your coach and head to Solliden Castle, where Princess Victoria, the Swedish heir to the throne, celebrates her birthday every year. Although an interior visit of the castle is not possible, the park with its luxuriant trees, shrubs and flowers are worth a visit.

Landborg Cliffs, Borgholm Castle Ruins and Park

Your final stop is at the Borgholm Castle ruins, perched atop of the sheer, steep face of the Landborg Cliffs and considered to be one of Sweden's most important historical monuments. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the exhibition, and learn about the castle's 900-year history. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.74 miles (about 1.2 kilometres), at times over uneven, gravel, and cobblestone surfaces and hills, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring a sweater or light jacket from the ship. The tour sequence may vary.
