Journey through the history of Tunisia during this scenic, half-day sightseeing tour of the Medina and Bardo Museum.
La Goulette, Tunis, Medina, Guided Tour, Free Time
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to Tunis. Upon arrival, head to the Medina. Built during the 7th century, the Medina is the historical and cultural heart of modern Tunis, and a wonderful place to get a feel for life in the city. Take a guided stroll through the labyrinth of narrow allies packed solidly with shops selling everything from tacky t-shirts and stuffed camels to high quality leather, ceramics, jewellery, and handicrafts. Following your tour, some free time is made available to browse the bustling souks, explore the Old City, or relax at a local teahouse with a cup of refreshing mint tea at your own expense.
Bardo Museum, Mosaics, Statuary, Artefacts
Next, re-board your coach and drive to the Bardo Museum, which is housed in the former Bardo Palace, the official residence of the Husseinite beys. An impressive building with tiled walls and decorative wooden ceilings, the Bardo Museum is famous for its vast collection of mosaics. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of the museum and its contents, which have been divided into sections spanning the Carthaginian, Roman, early-Christian and Arab-Islamic eras. The Roman collection contains one of the finest collections of Roman mosaics and statuary anywhere. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.
