Hanauma Bay, Halona Blowhole, and Makapu'u Point

From there, the tour continues to Hanauma Bay, a stunning curved bay formed when a portion of a volcanic crater collapsed thousands of years ago. During whale season, from December through May, keep a lookout for humpback whales breaching in the clear waters. As we pass Halona Point, marvel at the famous blowhole that erupts seawater through a submerged lava tube, creating a natural spectacle. The ride then ascends around Makapu'u Point, a rugged promontory standing 647 feet above the ocean, home to a historic lighthouse and dramatic ocean views. Your next stop offers a relaxing break with restroom facilities, a gift shop, and a chance to indulge in a refreshing island treat. The journey then takes you to the elevated heights of the Ko'olau Mountains, culminating at the Pali Lookout. Here, panoramic views of the lush windward side of the island unfold before you, displaying vibrant valleys and dramatic cliffs. Historically, this site is known for the brutal Battle of the Leaping Fish in 1795, where King Kamehameha I forced his enemies to jump from the cliffs in a decisive moment of Hawaiian history. This tour involves a minimal amount of walking, approximately 100 yards, with a few steps to navigate when getting on and off the bus. Guests requiring an accessible vehicle should contact the Shore Concierge desk at least 96 hours before arriving in port. Commercial vehicles are not permitted to stop at Hanauma Bay, Halona Point, Makapu’u Lookouts as of February 2018.? Commercial vehicles are not permitted to stop at any coastal beaches or easements along majority of East and North shores of Oahu as of December 2021.??We kindly advise guests to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and flat, closed-toe walking shoes to ensure a pleasant experience. Additionally, please remember to bring sun protection, such as sunscreen and a hat, along with bottled water from the ship to stay hydrated. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 18 years old.
