Excursion Resurrection hill & ano syros tour at Syros
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover the two iconic hills and settlements of Syros during this panoramic sightseeing excursion.
Syros, Resurrection Hill, Orthodox Church of the Resurrection, Aegean Sea, Ermoupolis
Depart the pier for the short drive to Resurrection Hill. Upon arrival, a visit is made to the Orthodox Church of the Resurrection. Located on the top of the hill, the church overlooks the Aegean Sea and city of Ermoupolis unfolding beneath. The church was built in 1870, on the spot where a memorial to the Greek Revolution of 1821 was erected and designed by the architect Dimitris Eleftheriadis. Since it's the same height as the Church of St. George in the neighbouring hill of Ano Syros, this edifice is one of Syros' iconic landmarks. Following your church visit, some free time is made available to explore your surrounds, and enjoy breath-taking panoramic vistas of the coast and Aegean Sea.
Ano Syros Village, Steps, White Houses and Arches
Next, re-board your coach and continue on to the hilltop village of Ano Syros. Founded in 1200 by the Venetians and inhabited throughout the course of history, the village maintains its Catholic and medieval character to this day. The city is characterised by countless steps that pass by the white houses and arches at the edge of the hill, which leads to the top of the village. Following your guided walking tour, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
