Excursion Sicilian cooking with signora consoli tour at Catania

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Embrace the scenic beauty and unique flavours of Sicily during this memorable, market visit, cooking lesson, and lunch at a private home in the countryside.

Depart the pier with your guide and head towards the Cathedral to the Porta Uzeda area, home to one of the most ancient and typical markets in the area. Here, discover the stables of Mediterranean cuisine - vegetables, fruits, and fish, while admiring the colours of the Sicilian stalls. Then, reboard the coach and drive on the Viagrande, formerly known as 'Varanni'.

Viagrande

Located on the slopes of Mt. Etna, this small village is renowned for its vineyards and a year-round, mild climate that makes it a popular summer destination for Catania residents seeking a respite from the heat of the city. Upon arrival, proceed to the 18-century Sicilian home of gastronomic journalist Eleonora Consoli, author of several books on Italian and Sicilian cooking, and the recipient of numerous awards. Many years ago she established the cooking school, in which now her daughter Monica is continuing the family tradition hosting guests.

Cucina del Sole

Join Ms. Consoli in the kitchen of her typical, 18th-century Sicilian home for a lesson in Sicilian cooking that focuses on pasta, meat, vegetables and cakes. Your cooking lesson concludes with a lunch consisting of the prepared dishes accompanied by wine, and served al fresco in Ms. Consoli's garden (weather permitting).

After lunch, re-board your coach for the approximate 45-minute return drive to the pier.

Please note: On this tour, participation is very limited on this tour; pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
