Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Travel to Medinah for approximately two hours by fast train. Upon your arrival, drive to the Dar Al Madinah Museum, a private museum featuring the city's heritage and history. The museum hosts important collections and visual galleries, including some rare cultural artifacts.
Your next visit is at the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi,the Prophet's Mosque, with its massive architecture and lights. It is built where the Islamic prophet Muhammad used to live and is currently buried. The mosque is sourranded by countless hotels, restaurants and shops selling a variety of succulent dates, traditional sweets, holy gadjets and Islamic clothing. Many businesses remain open throughout the day and night, making it known as a city that doesn't sleep.
Enjoy your local lunch before driving to a major pilgrimage site, Mount Uhud, the place where Muslim forces led by the Prophet Muh ammad battled troops from Makkah. The mountain rises about 3,500 feet (1,077 meters), and it can be climbed to better observe the battlefield.
Continue to the Quaba Mosque. On the migration from Makkah to Medinah in 622, the Prophet Muhammad and his followers stopped in the village of Quba and put down the foundation stone of the world's first mosque. Once outside the boundaries of Medinah, the mosque and the surrounding area have been fully absorbed by the city, and Quba Mosque sees a steady stream of visitors. Nearby Quba City Market sells dates, perfumes and other local specialties.
