Excursion Viking museum & nusfjord tour at Svolvaer
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover the splendid natural beauty and Viking history of the Lofoten Islands during this picturesque, full-day sightseeing excursion.
Svolvær, Lofoten Islands, Granite and Volcanic Mountains, Green Valleys, Villages
Depart the pier from Svolvær, the capital of the Lofoten Islands, for the scenic, approximately 70-minute drive to the tiny hamlet of Borg. The Lofoten Islands are a breath-taking sight to behold; approximately 100 miles (about 161 kilometres) of rugged granite and volcanic mountains, green valleys and charming villages. In days of old, the Lofoten Islands were quite isolated from one another, and accessible only by ferry. Today, bridges and undersea tunnels link the islands.
Borg, ©, Exhibitions, Reconstructions and Video
Upon arrival in Borg, head for the Lofotr Viking Museum, the site of an ancient Viking farm that was accidently discovered in the late-20th century, and has since been reconstructed. It has been proven that the Lofoten Islands were already a centre of power at the time of the Vikings. The main building has a length of approximately 272 feet (about 83 meters). During your guided visit, view a variety of exhibitions and reconstructions, along with a video about Viking history.
Nusfjord Fishing Village, Free Time, Fishermen's Dwellings, Lunch
Next, re-board your coach and continue on to Nusfjord, one of the most idyllic and best-preserved fishing villages in the Lofoten Islands. Today, it operates as a private, open-air museum. Upon arrival, some free time is made available to explore Nusfjord at your leisure, and admire the architecture of the fishermen's dwellings. Following your visit, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, commence the approximately 75-minute drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.6 miles (about one kilometre), at times over uneven, gravel, and cobblestone surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the Viking Museum; ramps are available. Walking in Nusfjord is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear warm, comfortable clothing in layers with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection and a weatherproof jacket from the ship. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
