Excursion Vintage train to soller village tour at Palma de Mallorca
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover some of the most scenic parts of Mallorca during this picturesque ride on the Soller Railway, and a visit to the lovely village of Soller. The railway is characterized, amongst other things, by the fact that it is narrow gauge, the track width being 914 mm (approximately 1-yard), which is infrequent nowadays; moreover its rolling stock is extremely varied and meticulously finished, and maintained using traditional methods.
Depart the pier for the approximate 50-minute sightseeing drive through Palma, and on to the Son Reus Train Station.
Soller Railway Journey
Upon arrival, board the historic Soller train. The Soller Railway has been running a daily train service along the 17-mile (27-kilometre) route between Palma de Mallorca and Soller, without interruption, since 1912.
Your scenic, 45-minute journey is an enchanting voyage highlighted by beautiful panoramic views of the Mallorcan Mountains, orange groves and small, fairy tale like villages. Pass through 13 tunnels and numerous bridges before arriving at Soller.
Soller
Set in a lush valley of orange groves between the mountains and the sea, Soller is popular with day trippers who arrive on the vintage train from Palma and seem to do little but sit outside the cafes in Placa Constitucion soaking up the atmosphere and the sun.
Explore this beautiful village in the middle of the mountains with lovely bars and shops, the pretty church of San Bartolomé, and the Town Hall.
After some free time in the beautiful village of Soller, board a coach for the drive back to the ship.
