Excursion Vulcano island & boat trip tour at Lipari
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
The island of Vulcano appears in the early myths of the ancient Greeks and also ssimilarly the Romans believed that Vulcano was the chimney of the god Vulcan's workshop and therefore named the island after him. Explore the pristine natural beauty and unique therapeutic properties of Vulcano Island during this scenic boat cruise and island tour.
After tendering ashore, meet your guide and embark on a private motorboat for a cruise to Vulcano Island. Your route passes the beautiful Lipari Coast, and then proceeds to the west coast of Vulcano to see the Faraglioni, the Grotta del Cavallo, the Spiaggia di Ponente and Vulcanello before arriving at Vulcano Island.
Vulcano Island
The most peculiar characteristic of Vulcano is its plateau, the most expansive of all the Aeolian Islands. Formed by lava, banks of tuff and quaternary deposits, the plateau is furrowed by deep valleys and surrounded by hills that fall towards the sea. On the high slopes of the island, the panorama is picturesque and wild. Vulcano Island was once home to three craters. One of them has been eroded by the sea, and presents an interesting cross-section of a volcanic cone featuring lava flows and stratifications of pyroclastic material.
Take a brief tour of the quaint shops and cafés of the small village before stopping by the pier for a stroll, a swim or an opportunity to enter one of the thermal wells from which a sulphurous steam rises. The wells are comprised of salt water and clay mud with a very high sulphurous content that prohibits the growth of pathogens. As a result, the thermal waters combined with the mud baths have an enormous therapeutic value in the treatment of various diseases that include skin, joint and respiratory problems. Soaking in the strong-smelling sulphur baths is popular with many visitors, followed by a cleansing shower or a swim in the balmy sea.
Following the visit, return to your boat and cruise back to Lipari, with an opportunity to take a dip in the crystal-clear sea en route.
