Salerno, Pompeii, Paestum Archaeological Site & Museum, Columned Temples, Museum, Artefacts

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour drive south to Pompeii's Paestum Archaeological Site, located on the west coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. One of the richest and most flourishing Greek colonies of southern Italy, the ancient Greek archeological site of Paestum was founded here over 2,500 years ago. The ancient Greeks were attracted by the sweeping, flat countryside and rich soil that was ideal for farming, which remains a thriving industry in the region to this day. During your guided walking tour, see three beautiful, columned temples (not unlike the Pantheon in Greece) which remain intact, then visit the Museum to view a splendid assortment of artefacts unearthed here at the Paestum Archaeological Site.

Tenuta Vannulo, Traditional Dairy Farm, Buffaloes, Buffalo Mozzarella Production, Cheese Tasting

Next, re-board your coach head to the nearby Tenuta Vannulo, a traditional mozzarella dairy, which uses milk exclusively produced by the approximately 600 buffaloes bred on this farm to produce the dairy products sold here. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of the farm. Along the way, observe the traditional production process by which Campania D.O.P. buffalo mozzarella is made. Following your tour, proceed for a tasting of focaccia, or bread stuffed with tomatoes and mozzarella, which was produced exclusively from the milk of the buffaloes bred on this farm.
