Explore the finest Baroque art in Lisbon and the history of the famous Portuguese tiles during this half-day excursion to the Estrela Basilica and Museu do Azulejo.
Estrela Basilica
Depart the pier for the brief drive to the Estrela Basilica. During your guided visit, view the impressive interior highlighted by marble of various colours on the walls and flooring, the famous Christmas Crib by Machado de Castro and the mausoleum of the founder, Queen Maria I.
Museu do Azulejo
Next, re-board your coach for the approximately 45-minute sightseeing drive to the Tiles Museum, or 'Museu do Azulejo'. Upon arrival, explore the 500-year history of the famous Portuguese tiles, or 'azulejos'. The museum is highlighted by gilded carvings, 'azulejos', marble, precious Brazilian woods, and a very long panel of tiles depicting the city of Lisbon in the year 1700.
Some free time is made available to browse the Museum Shop for souvenirs, or relax in the lovely gardens or original cafeteria adorned with curious old kitchen tiles. Following your visit, re-board the coach for the approximately 30-minute return drive to the pier.
