After visiting the market, continue the walk to the fortress.
Forte Do Castelo
Visit the fortress, which was built by the Portuguese in the highest place in the city during the 17th century. It was the way the Portuguese colonisers had to protect their new colonies against Dutch and French occupation in this region. Enjoy the marvelous panoramic view of the enormous bay in front of Belém from this place in the picturesque old city centre. This bay is used by the local boats as a hidroway. Take the transfer to the Basilik of Our Lady of Nazareth.
Basilik of Our Lady of Nazareth
Visit the Basilik built during the rubber boom time in the beginning of the 20th century. The Basilik sets as a copy of the St Paul's cathedral in Rome. This church is famous for its beauty and architecture, its central nave, stained glass windows and the altar. A devotion that was born more than 200 years ago takes place in the basilica, joining hundreds of thousands of devoted people to the religious festivals of the period, for the paying of the promises made to the Saint Virgin. Afterwards, take the transfer to the zoo.
Emilio Goeldi Botanical Zoo
Visit Emilio Goeldi Zoo, one of the most visited tourist attractions in Belém. Spread in five hectares of wooded area, the Goeldi has been renowned for years as one of the most important research centers in Brazil, studying the fauna and flora of Amazonia. In the zoo-botanic garden, visitors may see over 1500 samples of plants and more than 1600 fruit species (during season), that grow in the region; besides over 700 types of timber, and some Amazon animals such as birds, rodents and mammals.
Finally, take the transfer from the zoo to the pier and walk to the ship (short walk).
