Views Over Funchal
The tour begins at Pico dos Barcelos, where the true beauty of Madeira is revealed. From this panoramic viewpoint, take in sweeping views over Funchal city, its harbor and bay, with surrounding villages scattered across the island’s lush green hillsides.
Eira do Serrado
Continue along a winding mountain road to Eira do Serrado, situated at approximately 3,000 feet above sea level. This dramatic viewpoint offers outstanding views of Madeira’s highest peaks and the secluded Curral das Freiras (Nun’s Valley) below, a village once used by the nuns of the Santa Clara Convent as a refuge from pirate attacks in the 16th century. Enjoy time to relax, sample the traditional ginja liqueur with cake, and browse a small local handicraft shop.
Cabo Girão, One of the World’s Highest Sea Cliffs
The journey then descends through fragrant eucalyptus forests toward Cabo Girão, home to one of the highest sea cliffs in the world. From the spectacular viewpoint, admire uninterrupted ocean panoramas and the terraced slopes carved into the mountainside.
A Traditional Fishing Village
Travel along the rugged west coast to the picturesque fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, famously painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Walking distances are limited to approximately 200–400 meters in total, mostly optional, with photo stops at panoramic viewpoints.The tour is conducted using an ADA-accessible vehicle equipped with a lift, suitable for both foldable and electric wheelchairs. All venues visited, including Pico dos Barcelos, Eira do Serrado and Cabo Girão, are equipped with ramps, allowing step-free access to the viewpoints. Guests must be able to embark and disembark the vehicle with assistance from the lift system.
