Excursion High knoll fort tour at St Helena

Explore the history of St. Helena Island during this picturesque sightseeing excursion to the High Knoll Fort and Plantation House.
High Knoll Fort
Depart the pier for the short drive along the western side of island to the High Knoll Fort. En route, pass by the historic Ladder Hill Fort, Half Tree Hollow, Deadwood Plain and Diana's Peak, which rises 2,700 feet (823 metres) above sea level, and is home to many of the island's endemic plant and animal species. Upon arrival at the hilltop High Knoll Fort, leave your coach for the short walk to the High Knoll Gate, then begin your guided tour of the fort. Learn about the interesting history of the fort, and ascend the stairs leading up to its tower for spectacular panoramic views and photo opportunities of St. Helena Island.
Plantation House
Next, proceed for the drive to Plantation House, the official residence of St. Helena Island's governor. Upon arrival at the grounds of Plantation House, see Jonathan the Giant Tortoise, the island's oldest inhabitant and a local celebrity.
Ladder Hill and Jacob's Ladder
From here, re-board your coach and proceed for a photo stop at Ladder Hill, which offers wonderful vistas of the Ladder Hill Fort, its battery and guns, 700-step Jacob's Ladder, Jamestown, the harbour area, and your ship. You may opt to climb the 700 steps to access the top of the 600-foot (183-metre) Jacob's Ladder for splendid photo opportunities over the island. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence short drive back to the pier via Ladder Hill Road, with a souvenir stop en route.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over gravel, grass, uneven ground and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 20 steps to access the top of the High Knoll Fort's tower. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guest are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection and a light jacket from the ship. The tour sequence may vary. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
