Explore the rich cultural and historical heritage of Montenegro during a full-day sightseeing tour of this lovely, Old World city.

Depart the pier for an approximately 60 minutes drive through the beautiful mountains and along a narrow road with switchbacks, and on to Njegusi. En route, a photo stop is made for splendid views overlooking Kotor Bay.

Njegusi & Local Snack

Njeguši is the birthplace of Petar Petrovic-Njegos, considered by scholars to be the most important Montenegrin leader of all time. In addition to laying down the foundation of the modern state and subsequent kingdom of Montenegro, Petrovic-Njegos is also known as one of the foremost South Slav poets. During your visit to Njegusi, taste some of the locally-produced specialities, including smoked ham and cheese, and brandy and wine.

Cetinje, National Museum

Next, re-board the coach and proceed to Cetinje, the former capital of Montenegro. Now part of Lovcen National Park, the town was formerly the seat of the Bishop of Montenegro, who ruled the country from Cetinje. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the National Museum. The museum once served as the palace of King Nikola Petrovic I, who ruled from 1860-1918.

Lunch

Leaving the museum, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant specializing in the national dishes of Montenegro. After lunch, re-board your coach and continue your scenic drive through the mountains on route to Kotor.

Cathedral of St. Triphun

Upon arrival in Kotor, take a guided walking tour through the Medieval Old Town. Along the way, an external visit is made to the magnificent Cathedral of St. Triphun. One of the oldest and most beautiful examples of Roman architecture, the cathedral was constructed in 1166 on the remains of a 9th-century temple. In addition to the remnants of 13th-century frescoes, the cathedral also houses a treasury with local and Venetian artwork dating from the 14th to 20th centuries.

Grgurina Palace & Fortified Walls

Next, proceed to the 17th-century Grgurina Palace. Today, the palace houses the Maritime Museum (external visit), a testament to the town's lengthy maritime history. From here, your walk continues through the narrow streets of the walled Old Town. In some places, the walls reach a height of 60 feet (18 metres). Following your visit, walk back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking at the museum and Old Town (an approximate total of 2 km/1.2 miles). this tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and for those who utilise a wheelchair and for guests who suffer from height.  The driving to the village of Njeguši involves driving along a narrow road with approximately 25 switchbacks. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. The tour sequence may vary.
