Discovery Centre

Depart the pier for the short drive to the Discovery Centre which highlights the Tablelands together with the other geological and biological highlights of the park. You will be introduced to the people, history, landforms and geology of this internationally famous Canadian park. Gros Morne National Park

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for both exceptional natural scenery and distinctive geological history, Gros Morne provides some of our planet's great geology lessons. It is here that Poets and Geologists say the earth shows her bones and we are able to wander the earth's interior. This is as close as you will ever get to the mantle of the earth or the surface of Mars.

Tablelands

Next, continue with a short drive to the Tablelands. It is thought the Tablelands' originated in the Earth's mantle and was forced up from the depths during a plate collision several hundred million years ago and consists of the ultramafic rock periodite which lacks the usual nutrients required to sustain most plant life, hence its barren appearance. Walk on the Tablelands trail looking at its unique physical nature and also at the distinctive plants that make this landform home. A Parks Canada Interpreter will accompany you at the Tablelands to ensure you get to hear about this region's exceptional natural scenery and distinctive geological history.

At the conclusion of the tour, re-board the school bus for approximately 20-minute drive back to the ship.
