Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 15-minute drive to Parc Zoologique et Forestier, located in the hinterland overlooking Nouméa. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour through the lush landscapes and rolling green hills of this peaceful, 85-acre (about 34-hectare) nature reserve.

Endemic and Introduced Flora and Fauna, Wild and Domestic Birds, and the Elusive Cagou

Along the way, spot a huge variety of endemic and introduced species of flora and fauna, including wild and domestic birds such as the roussette (fruit bat), notou, parakeets and the rare cagou. The latter is a flightless bird, and the symbol of New Caledonia; its call is often mistaken for a barking dog.

At an elevation of approximately 548 feet (about 167 metres), enjoy the changing backdrop of distant ocean views whilst walking along the well-marked trails, and pass by ponds, lakes, native shrubs and abundant bird life along the way. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 15-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking and standing for approximately 0.93 miles (about 1.5 kilometres), at times over uneven surfaces, inclines and hills, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and ten steps inside the park. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair.
