Excursion Perge & archaeological museum including lunch tour at Antalya
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Perge
Depart the pier for the 45-minute drive to Perge, located approximately nine miles (about 14 kilometres) east of Antalya. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of this ancient city. Pass through the Roman Gate, the original entrance to the city, and see the Baths Complex, a Hellenistic gateway and walls, and the round towers hovering above a horseshoe-shaped courtyard. From here, follow the colonnaded street to the 4th-century agora, and view the impressive remains of the ancient theatre, basilica, and stadium.
Archaeological Museum
Next, drive to the Antalya Archaeological Museum. During a guided walking tour of the museum, view displays of impressive collections of pottery, coins, mosaics, sculptures, costumes, sarcophagi, and cave artefacts. A furnished nomad's tent, a carpet loom and several rooms from a typical Ottoman household provide fascinating glimpses into the local lifestyles.
Hall of Emperors and Classical Art
Next, proceed to the Hall of Emperors and Classical Art to view statues of the Greek gods, the emperors Hadrian and Septimus Serverus, and their empresses. Other exhibits include a stunning mosaic collection from Xanthos, extraordinary finds from the Karain Caves dating from the Old Stone Age and a comprehensive ethnographical collection.
Following your visit, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant in city center.
At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach for the approximate 30-minute drive back to the pier.
