Excursion Portarlington seafood experience tour at Geelong

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Have an abiding passion for bivalves? And extraordinary on-the-water experiences? Hop aboard a deluxe mussel-farming trawler and out into the waters of Port Phillip Bay for a seafood journey unlike any other offered in Australia. This exclusive outing from Portarlington Pier, just 30 minutes by coach from your ship in Geelong, offers you a front-row seat on the process of cultivating and preparing some of the finest mussels found anywhere Down Under. During the 4 to 5 hours you spend onboard, you’ll handle the mussel ropes as they’re pulled from the water, enjoy cooking demonstrations and tastings, and learn about sustainable aquaculture practices. From the mussel farmer to the private cook to the deckhand, each member of this onboard team has mastered the field and is happy to share anecdotes and insights about their specialized field.

Best of all, your tastings not only include juicy mussels but fresh oysters, scallops, abalone – and sashimi or sea urchin, if available – all paired with ocean-aged wine that’s been cellared underwater and other Bellarine wines and beers. Dessert and a local gin cocktail round out the offerings. At the journey’s end, disembark with a personalized menu containing recipes and tasting notes in hand, as well as a photo and story journal to remember your experience. The drive back to Geelong Pier takes about half an hour.
