Excursion Royal palace of queluz & ericeira village tour at Lisbon
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience the Old World splendour of Lisbon and a taste of the Portuguese Riviera during this picturesque tour of the mountainous region of Sintra and the fishing port of Ericeira.
Depart the pier for the approximately 30-minute drive to Queluz.
Queluz Palace and Gardens
This charming Palace surrounded with lovely gardens, is a nice example of the Royal residences built all over Europe to imitate the court of Versailles.
During the 20th-Century, part of Queluz Palace was used as the official residence of foreign heads of state when they visited officially Portugal. Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II stayed here in 1957 and hosted a banquet in the Throne Room, a small replica of Versailles hall of mirrors.
Ericeira
From Queluz you will be driven to Ericeira, a traditional fishing village, which has developed enormously during the 20th century due to the growing interest as a summer resort. It has, however, maintained its original characteristics and its own individual atmosphere.
Located fifty kilometres from Lisbon, considered an easily accessible area, its beaches are very popular during the summer, and are considered among the best in Europe for surfing. Ribeira d'Ilhas Beach, where one of the World Surfing Championship contests is held every year, is worth a special mention.
Upon arrival at Ericeira, some free time is made available to explore the area and browse the shops for souvenirs before the 45-minute drive back to the ship.
