Excursion S.a.l.t. provence: seasonal lunch in a 1700s provençal house tour at Marseille

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Join William and Prune, owners of an organic estate in the Provence, and a stellar local culinary expert for a seasonal lunch and tasting in a farmhouse from the 1700s. Discover the beauty and bounty of the Provençal table at this relaxed, intimate experience, inspired by memories of rustic French family lunches.

Tour of picturesque limestone village

Start your day from Marseille port, where you’ll be met by a local food expert and enjoy a scenic one-hour drive to a picturesque village in the Alpilles mountain range. Upon arrival, enjoy a short guided walk around the village with its limestone houses, peaceful squares, small shops, and cafés with locals enjoying their coffee on the terrace.

Private organic estate visit, expert guides, rare olive oil tasting

A short 15-minute drive brings you to a beautiful farmhouse from the 1700s and surrounding organic estate, lush with vineyards, and olive and fruit tree groves. Your hosts are husband-and-wife duo William and Prune: one, an epicurean olive grower, the other, an artisan who creates intricate feather pieces for haute couture. Upon arrival, William will introduce the estate, olive cultivation and local varieties. Then, visit Prune’s atelier and enjoy an olive oil tasting, including the rare, distinctive fruité noir, one of Provence’s most emblematic olive oils.

Provençal lunch

Finally, sit down for a seasonal lunch, either in the garden or inside the vaulted rooms of the historic house. It’s a true immersion into Provençal cuisine, centered around the different olive oils produced on the estate, along with carefully selected wines from nearby estates. In true Provençal style, you may be invited to help prepare certain elements of the meal—opening wine, setting the table, or arranging the cheese platter. Your lunch may include homemade aïoli with garden vegetables, slow-cooked local lamb, and will certainly finish with dessert and artisan cheese. Fully satiated, it’s then time to return to the ship with a scenic approximately one-hour drive.
