Excursion Unesco geiranger fjord experience tour at Nordfjordeid
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Spend a day immersed in some of Norway’s most magical fjordland scenery on this full-day panoramic coach adventure. The natural majesty begins the minute you depart the pier and head eastward along a road that hugs the shore of Europe’s deepest lake, Hornindalsvatn, deservedly renowned for its crystal-clear water and breathtaking mountain backdrop. Some 75 minutes later, enter the picturesque village of Stryn with its famously meandering Strynselva river, then stop at nearby Videseter to savor an early three-course lunch crafted from fresh, local ingredients.
Dining on delicious cuisine at this hotel venue nestled in the heart of the mountains provides the perfect opportunity to unwind a while in stunning surroundings before continuing onward – and upward. Because next on the agenda is a scenic 80-minute ascent toward the summit of Mount Dalsnibba, famed for its spectacular skywalk. Step off up here for a half hour and drink in sweeping vistas of the emerald valley, glistening fjord, and towering peaks – with the town of Geiranger visible in the distance below. The visitor center here also offers facilities and regional souvenirs.
Your descent from Dalsnibba leads to yet another iconic Vestland must-see – the Flydalsjuvet viewpoint, offering a second remarkable perspective on the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord vista. A short photo stop here challenges you to outdo the scads of coffee-table-book travel images captured from this jaw-dropping vantage point. Afterwards, continue down to Geiranger village itself to head out onto those fjord waters you’ve been admiring from the heights. For the next 60 minutes or so, glide through Geirangerfjord, encountering famous waterfalls like "The Seven Sisters" and "The Suitor" as you make your way to Hellesylt, then debark and journey the rest of the way back to Nordfjordeid by coach. With an imagination very well filled.
