La Goulette, Scenic Drive, Takrouna Village

Depart the pier aboard a 4X4 vehicle for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive to Takrouna, a Berber village and historic site that played a decisive role in Tunisia at the end of World War II. Together with the villages of Jradou and Zriba, Takrouna features traditional Berber architecture consisting of stone houses with vaulted rooms and interior courtyards. The simplicity of their construction is a typical aspect of old Berber villages.

Guided Hike, Local Homes, Museum, Mint Tea Tasting

Upon arrival, take a guided hike through the village, where families of Berber origin still derive their living from agriculture and the weaving of Alfa and Berber carpets. Along the way, your guide points out distinct homes and explains the lifestyle of Berber families. In addition, visit the local Museum and stop to sample typical mint tea.

Zriba Olia Village, Guided Hike, Dar Zriba Restaurant, Lunch

Next, re-board your coach and head to Zriba Olia, an abandoned Berber village that was built in the 17th century but deserted in the 1960s. During your guided hike, explore many of the rooms and buildings, then proceed for a typical local lunch at the Dar Zriba restaurant. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of activity and a moderate amount of walking for approximately one mile (about 1.6 kilometres), at times over uneven, gravel, and natural surfaces and steep inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the 4X4 vehicle, and many steps at the villages of Takrouna and Zriba. This tour is recommended for active guests in good physical condition. This tour is not suitable for pregnant guests, guest with neck and/or back problems, guests with heart and/or respiratory conditions, guests who suffer from vertigo, guests prone to motion sickness, guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing or sportswear with sturdy, flat, and closed-toe hiking shoes or sneakers, and bring sun protection, insect repellent, bottled water, and Euros, Dinars, or credit cards for purchases from the ship. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18 to participate on this tour. Photography/videography of government and police buildings is strictly prohibited. The driving time between the pier and sites visited is approximately 1-1.5 hours in each direction. A signed waiver is required to participate on this tour. Operation of this tour is subject to weather conditions. 4WD are 7-passenger vehicles with 1-3-3 seating and can be of different model. The tour sequence may vary
