Excursion Chilean vineyard & petroglyphs tour at Coquimbo

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore the unique history and flavours of the Enchantment Valley during this immersive, full-day sightseeing excursion.

Coquimbo, Enchantment Valley, Beaches of La Herradura, Las Tacas, and Guanaqueros

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive southward on the Pan-American Highway towards the Enchantment Valley. En route, marvel at beautiful coastal beaches such as La Herradura, Las Tacas, and Guanaqueros, then travel along a country road to the valley. The Enchantment Valley has great archaeological importance, and is considered an open-air museum of scientific and cultural interest. The 'El Molle' culture, and other groups of ancient hunters, inhabited this valley from circa 2,000 B.C. to 600 A.D.

Petroglyphs, Pictographs, Piedras Tacitas, Limari River, Quebrada Seca

Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour to explore the vast array of incredible and interesting petroglyphs depicting masks, heads with antennae, tiaras, sun symbols, and snake-like and fish-like shapes deeply-engraved in rocks. In addition, you may see pictographs of lineal drawings, human beings, and other figures in natural paint, as well as the Piedras Tacitas (Small Cup of Stones). Afterward, re-board your coach and continue on toward Viña Tololo, nestled in 'Quebrada Seca' on the northern plateau of the Limarí River. This privileged sector of the valley, located approximately 11 miles (about 18 kilometres) from the sea, presents unique climatic and soil conditions for the production of wines and piscos of unrivalled quality.

Viña Tololo, Wine Tasting, Local Specialities

Climate, soil, location, and people make the difference when it comes to distinguishing Viña Tololo as one of the premium vineyards in Chile. About a year ago, Viña Tololo was launched onto the market with wines and piscos. To date, it has already been recognised with four medals in important international wine competitions. Upon arrival at Viña Tololo, proceed for a tasting of three different wines accompanied by local specialities. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 1.5-hour drive back to the pier.
