According to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, its leaves can grow up to 6.5 feet / 2 meters long and are similar in toughness and flexibility to palm fronds, making them ideal for weaving.

Bottled water is not included on this tour, and guests are strongly encouraged to bring their own drink from the ship. There is no snack included on this excursion either. Children ages two and older are welcome to participate but are the responsibility of their guardian(s) at all times; child safety seats are not available. Comfortable walking shoes and light attire are suggested, along with preferred sun protection, hat, and camera. Shopping for local handicrafts may be offered, if time permits.
