Excursion Discovering essaouira tour at Safi
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
We will set sail from the port of Safi and travel along the coastline to Essaouira. Established in the 18th century, Essaouira was constructed to compete with Agadir. Previously referred to as Mogador, which translates to small fortress, it was designed as a fortified settlement encircled by Vauban-style ramparts and played a significant role as an international trading port, connecting Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa with Europe and beyond. During our full-day tour, we will explore the remarkable blend of Portuguese and Berber architecture, the 16th-century sea bastions built for the city's protection, the 18th-century Medina, and in the Mellah, we will discover the souks specializing in gold, spices, and fish. We will savor a seafood lunch by the beach before heading back to the port in Safi.
