Oshagiri, Samurai House, and Historical Sites

This tour begins with a brief stop at Oshagiri Hall to admire the stunning floats known as “Oshagiri,” which are beautifully crafted for the “Murakami Taisai Festival” held each July. Next, explore the Wakabayashi Samurai House, constructed in the early 19th century. This one-story, thatched-roof residence showcases the traditional magariya style and is divided into many small rooms. It was designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 1977, as it perfectly represents a typical middle-class samurai home. After visiting the house, enjoy a stroll down Black Fence Street, where is posssible to find more Samurai residences, charming Machiya houses, and ancient temples. Enjoy the ambiance of this historic castle town during a guided walk within its ancient walls.

Murakami Town: A Culinary Tradition

The area has a rich history of catching and processing salmon for centuries. Visit Kikkawa, one of the oldest shops in the region, renowned for preparing 'wind-dried salmon' using traditional methods. In their back room, witness hundreds of salmon hanging from the wooden ceiling as the unique preparation process is explained.

After this immersive experience, re-board the coach for an approximately 70-minute drive back to the port, reflecting on the cultural and culinary treasures of Murakami Town.
