Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Burra via the town centre of Lerwick, capital of Shetland, the Scalloway Viewpoint and a photo stop at Meal Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Shetland. The beach is approximately 300 yards (about 274 metres) away from the car park along a boarded walkway.

One of the smaller Shetland Islands, Burra is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges and the island of Trondra. Upon arrival, proceed to the Shetland Pony Experience. You are greeted by the friendly, local owners and separated into smaller groups. Next, enjoy a rare opportunity to pet, brush and handle the ponies; any children may also take a supervised indoor ride.

Beach Walk and Picture-Taking with Shetland Ponies

Following your up-close encounter with the adorable little foals, you are invited to lead one of the ponies a few hundred yards (about 183 metres) down to a beautiful and secluded beach, and have your photo taken with these lovely animals. This positively authentic and fun Shetland experience is a must-see for horse and animal lovers alike. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.
