Excursion Walking among volcanoes tour at Santa Cruz De La Palma

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Experience Fuencaliente, or Hot Spring, on this five-hour exploration. Fuencaliente is the volcanic home of a marine reserve, local wines, hiking trails, beaches and coves of black sand, salt flats, and pine forests offering you a multiplicity of unforgettable experiences.

Embark from the pier and board your coach for the 50-minute drive to Fuencaliente, the southernmost municipality on the island of La Palma. Visit the magnificent San Antonio Volcano. Stop by the Visitor Center where you can learn the volcano's ancient secrets, then walk along the crater's rim.

Next take an easy eight-kilometer hike down to Teneguia Volcano. Discover the still-active Fuencaliente Lighthouse, built in 1985 to replace the original lighthouse that began service in 1903. An interpretation center for the La Palma Marine Reserve is located within the keeper's house. Discover the adjacent salt pans that offer a delightful visual contrast, their gleaming white against the black volcanic soil around them. Sea salt is still harvested in the traditional manner every summer at these salinas. While here, be sure to take in the extraordinary panoramic view of the south volcanic area.

Reboard your coach for the return trip to the pier in Santa Cruz de la Palma.
