Depart the pier aboard a catamaran for a scenic, approximately two-hour discovery cruise along Lyttelton Harbour, an extinct volcanic crater and the gateway to Antarctica. Full commentary is provided by your skipper/guide, who takes you up-close to the water in search of one of the world's rarest and smallest dolphins, the Hector's, or New Zealand, dolphin. In addition, look for coastal marine bird species such as breeding spotted shags, white-fronted terns and numerous species of gulls.
Historic, Early-Maori and European Settlers' Sites
Next, explore Lyttelton's fascinating history. See evidence of the harbour's violent, volcanic past and many significant sites, including those of the early Maori and European settlers. Enjoy a refreshing cup of tea or coffee as you hear the stories from the historic Lyttelton Township, the legends of Ripapa Island and more. At the conclusion of your panoramic catamaran journey, commence the short ride back to the pier. Upon arrival, disembark the catamaran and return to the ship on-foot.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking for approximately 656 yards (about 600 metres) if the ship is docked at the No. 2 Wharf (a shuttle bus is utilised if the ship is docked at the No. 7 Wharf), with a few steps to negotiate to embark/disembark the boat.
