Excursion Scenic jeju and seongsan sunrise peak tour at Jeju Island

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Discover Korea’s natural wonders on this scenic and invigorating half-day adventure.

Seopjikoji

Depart the pier for an approximately one-hour drive to the eastern shore of Jeju Island. Your first stop is Seopjikoji, a dramatic coastal promontory where a volcanic tuff cone rises above sweeping views of the sea. The name comes from “Seopji,” the area’s old designation, and “Koji,” meaning a sudden bump of land in the Jeju dialect. From the peak, take in panoramic vistas of the ocean and, in spring, brilliant yellow fields of canola flowers. Atop the hill stands a beacon fire station built from volcanic rock, reaching 4 meters in height and 9 meters in diameter. Behind it lies the Bulgeunoreum Volcanic Cone, notable for its red soil and white lighthouse, which provide a striking visual contrast. Seopjikoji has also served as the filming location for many Korean films and dramas.

Sunrise Peak, Volcanic Crater, Sharp Rocks, Cliffs, Crater Visit, Magnificent Sea & Coastal Views

Next, continue to Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), a UNESCO World Heritage Site formed by hydrovolcanic eruptions thousands of years ago. At its summit lies a massive volcanic crater, measuring approximately 600 meters (1,968 feet) in diameter and rising about 90 meters (295 feet) above sea level. The crater is encircled by 99 jagged rock formations that resemble a gigantic crown. The southeast and north slopes drop dramatically into sea cliffs, while the northwest side slopes gently into grassy meadows that connect to Sunrise Village. In spring, the surrounding fields are carpeted with yellow canola blossoms. A guided hike to the crater rim rewards you with spectacular island, sea, and coastal views.

At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach for the approximately one-hour return drive to the pier.
