Excursion Shai hills & krobo glass beads tour at Tema

Embark on an exciting excursion to Shai Hills and the Krobo Bead Workshop. This tour blends adventure, wildlife, and a hands-on cultural experience.

Start your tour with a 90-minute drive to Shai Hill Reserve, a stunning nature reserve combining savannah, woodland, and rocky. Located close to Accra, it is home to diverse wildlife, including baboons, antelope, and a variety of bird species. Enjoy a hike along the scenic trails with a local guide and explore the ancient caves once inhabited by the Shai people and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Continue to Akosombo for lunch.

After lunch visit Krobo bead-making workshop, where artisans craft colourful traditional beads using ancient techniques. Learn about the bead-making process, from glass powder to intricate designs, and discover the cultural significance of Krobo beads in Ghanaian tradition. After a guided tour through the facilities and shopping opportune return to Tema.

Please note: Ghana is a very-low-income country with very basic infrastructure, and vastly different to the western culture mentality. Local conditions may be challenging; therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Coaches, guides, equipment, and services are the best-available in the area, but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions. This excursion involves a moderate amount of walking over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach as well as at the bead factory. This excursion includes 3.5 hours driving, with 90 minutes in each direction plus travel time between sites. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, sun protection and insect repellant is recommended. Anticipate high temperatures and humidity and we recommend staying hydrated by bringing your water bottle. Guests are informed tips to local guides and drivers are at guest’s discretion.
