Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Journey through the history and crafts of Tunisia during this scenic, half-day sightseeing tour of the Bardo Museum and the village of Sidi Bou Said.

Bardo Museum, Mosaics, Statuary, Artefacts

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to Tunis and to the Bardo Museum, which is housed in the former Bardo Palace, the official residence of the Husseinite beys. An impressive building with tiled walls and decorative wooden ceilings, the Bardo Museum is famous for its vast collection of mosaics. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of the museum and its contents, which have been divided into sections spanning the Carthaginian, Roman, early-Christian and Arab-Islamic eras. The Roman collection contains one of the finest collections of Roman mosaics and statuary anywhere.

From here, re-board your coach and take a coastal drive en route to the lovely village of Sidi Bou Said, perched high on a hill overlooking the Gulf of Tunis.

White-Washed Walls, Blue-Coloured Rooves, Free Time. Shopping

Sidi Bou Said is home to a maze of cobbled streets with old stone steps that make it a delightful place to take a guided stroll. Pass by gleaming, white-washed walls and buildings with blue-coloured rooves and ornate, curved window grills, a local trademark. In addition, see colourful arched doorways that open onto small courtyards filled with geraniums and bougainvillea. Following your walking tour, some free time is made available to browse the local handicrafts or relax at one of the local tea houses with a cup of refreshing mint tea at your own expense.

At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.
