Excursion Wonderful wool & a vintage train - small group tour tour at Douglas

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Nestled in the heart of Laxey, beside the fast-flowing crystal-clear waters of the Laxey River, find the Laxey Wollen Mill.

Initially built in 1881, the woolen mill has endured many challenges and changes over the years but what makes this mill so special is the wool used for their products is produced by Manx Loaghtan sheep.

One of the rarest sheep in the world, these sheep can only be found on the Isle of Man, and Loaghtan lambs are born with a very dark-brown fleece which becomes lighter and can be adapted for harsh winter weather making excellent knitwear.

Enjoy a tour of the woolen mill as you learn about this historic craft and of course, these beautiful sheep.

Following your visit, travel a short distance to Laxey Railway Station to board the Manx Electric Railway.Opened in 1819, this charming train line runs through the Eastern side of the island along the picturesque coastal path. Sit back and relax as you travel in a traditional Victorian carriage as the sound of the Irish Sea passes you by.
