Excursion Discover todos santos tour at La Paz

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Your day of adventure begins as you board your air-conditioned transportation for a ride down Pichilingue Highway. During your 75-minute journey, as you travel along the eastern coast of Baja into the heart of the peninsula, you will drive through a stark desert landscape that is full of spiny cactus that is inhabited by hawks, coyotes, pumas and roadrunners. As you approach Todos Santos on Baja's western coast, you will be captivated by the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, swaying palm trees, and rolling hillsides covered in acres of mango groves, avocado, papaya, and mango orchards.

Founded as a mission in 1724 by Jesuit priests, Todos Santos later became a major sugar cane producer in the 19th century. Many of the homes and buildings built with the wealth of sugar cane profits can still be seen around town. You will head into the zocalo, or main square, and begin your guided tour of the stone paved streets of the historic district. One of the sights you will visit is the Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz. Founded in 1723, this simple mission contains the statue of the Virgin of Pilar, the town's patron saint. Nearby is the Cultural Center, Nestor Agundez Museum. This former elementary school displays exhibits of local history and anthropology including artifacts from the indigenous people through the colonial and revolutionary periods. Next, you can enjoy some free time before heading for a snack at the beautiful Hotel California. Founded in 1947, the hotel has recently been remodeled and the flower filled patio is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a Mexican sampler snack while the charming bells of the mission accompany your meal.

Enjoy some free time walking through town, delighted by the calm and quietness on the mains streets.
