Rosyth, Edinburgh, City Centre, Self-Guided Walking Tour
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 75-minute drive to Edinburgh, with commentary provided on the coach. Upon arrival in Edinburgh's city centre, receive your orientation about the city and its many historic sites, and begin your self-guided walking tour of Edinburgh. Ample free time is provided to explore your surrounds at your leisure and according to your unique tastes and preferences, and dine at your own expense at one of the many cafés or restaurants in the city.
Royal Mile, Old Town, Timber Houses, Edinburgh Castle, Castle Rock
Sights you might want to visit may include the Royal Mile, which is comprised of five cobblestone streets linking Edinburgh Castle at the top to Holyrood Palace at the bottom, and the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town. The streets are lined with timber houses built and named after the landowners, and this tradition can still be seen to this day. Edinburgh Castle is also well-worth a visit; this historic fortress dominates the skyline of Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, from its position on the Castle Rock.
St. Giles Cathedral, Holyrood Palace, National Museum of Scotland
Midway along the Royal Mile stands the St. Giles Cathedral, with its famed crown spire on the tower. Following a restoration programme, which began in 1977, essential roof repairs were carried out and a magnificent new organ was installed. Other must-see sites include the storied, 16th-century Holyrood Palace, which features exquisite gardens and a beautiful park, and the National Museum of Scotland. This museum was formed in 2006 by the merger of the new Museum of Scotland, with collections relating to Scottish antiquities, culture and history, and the adjacent Royal Scottish Museum (so renamed in 1904), with collections covering science, technology, natural history and world cultures. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 75-minute drive back to the pier.
