Excursion Hiking the stunning caminito del rey with tapas tour at Malaga
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Hike Caminito del Rey
Leave the pier by coach and in 75 minutes reach the fascinating landscape of the "Caminito del Rey". The Caminito del Rey has an itinerary that will lead you across the heart of Desfiladero de los Gaitanes (Gaitanes Ravine). The gorge is famous for the walkway - not for the faint hearted which hangs 100m above the base of the gorge. The past provided access to a hydro-electric system and took its name from an official visit by Alfonso XIII of Spain in 1921. The gorge runs from the outlet of the "Embalse del Gaitanejo" to "El Chorro". There are two extremely narrow sections at each end of the gorge with a wider bowl in-between. In addition to the re-furbished walkway, the old Malaga-Cordoba railway line runs through the gorge in a set of tunnels and bridges. The gorge features prominently as a place of escape and refuge for the main characters played by Stephen Boyd and Brigitte Bardot in the 1958 movie "The Night Heaven Fell". The railway and sections of the Caminito were used in the final location shots of the 1965 adventure film Von Ryan's Express.
Discover the remote landscape on foot and learn curious facts about railroad pioneers and the electricity production from you guide.
Tapas
After a 3h30 walk surrounded by nature, you will enjoy a tapas tasting with drinks at the end of the route. The setting for your refreshment is an old flour factory built in 1827 in the Gaitanes Gorge.
