Excursion Mafalala explorer tour at Maputo

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Maputo, formerly Lourenço Marques, is the capital and largest city of Mozambique. While the country has only been at peace for a relatively short period, after a devastating civil war in the 70's and 80's, great strides have been made in the "healing" of this once affluent Portuguese city.

Travel towards Mafalala, central suburb of Maputo city with a long and interesting history. Throughout Mozambique's turbulent past, Mafalala has always been an important cultural and political center. The suburb has given birth to various famous political leaders, writers, musicians and sporting heroes (football fans will have heard of Eusébio).

Take a two-hour walking tour through Mafalala and learn about local ethno-cultural differences from place to place. With every step we go through a "who's who" of Mozambican history, thus gaining a perspective of the last half century.

As you walk Mafalala's dusty streets, winding alleys and market, gain insight in to local foods and medicine, and interact with the local people on this unique adventure. The tour continues to the colorful Feima market where guests can enjoy some souvenir shopping. Return to the quayside.

Please note: This tour involves two-hours of sometimes strenuous walking over uneven terrain, making it unsuitable for those with limited mobility or in a wheelchair. Guests are recommended to wear comfortable shoes for walking.
