Excursion Nature's perfect paradise: fakarava's blue lagoon tour at Fakarava

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

In 2006, Fakarava was designated as a UNESCO Marine Biosphere Reserve due to its pristine ecosystem, exceptional marine biodiversity (the waters here host over 400 species of fish, 200 species of coral, and several protected marine species), and the sustainable relationship between its inhabitants and environment. A 20-minute boat ride from the ship’s pier takes you deep into the crown jewel of Fakarava’s renowned waters – to a “blue lagoon” within a lagoon that seems crafted by an artist's hand. The extraordinary formation, created by centuries of coral reef development, presents a natural swimming pool of impossible beauty, where gradients of turquoise and azure waters meet powdery white sand beaches.

Here, in one of the world's most pristine environments, you’ll enjoy two hours of exploration at your chosen pace of discovery. Slip beneath the crystal-clear waters with your snorkel gear to witness a kaleidoscope of marine life – from curious parrotfish and butterfly fish to graceful eagle rays. The waters serve as a crucial habitat for several species of sharks, including the grey reef shark and the blacktip reef shark, making this an exceptional spot for underwater photography.

Or, you might choose to simply unwind on the immaculate beach, where the gentle lapping of waves provides nature's perfect soundtrack. The Blue Lagoon's unique geography protects it from stronger currents while maintaining the pristine clarity that makes Fakarava's waters world-renowned.
