Excursion Nature walk in the morne seychellois national park tour at Mahe Island
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover Morne Seychellois National Park on this half day (3.5 hours) hiking adventure. Challenge yourself to climb to the top of the mountain, Morne Blanc, and witness the sweeping views across Mahé's astonishing western seaboard.
Embark from the pier and board your coach for the 30-minute drive to the park. Prepare yourself for a continuous uphill climb from what is already a high-altitude starting point.
Your hike begins on a trail that passes through an old tea plantation. As the trail elevates, rise into the mist forest ecology where lichens, mosses and ferns cover most surfaces. See the many jackfruit trees that stand adjacent to the path up to the mountain and their large fruits fallen to the ground.
Listen for many of Seychelles' endemic birds in their mountain forest home, such as the Seychelles bulbul, the Seychelles swiftlet, and the Seychelles sunbird. You may also hear the surprisingly loud calls of the world's smallest frog, which is endemic to Seychelles, but at only centimeter in length, finding one can prove much more difficult. Be advised that there are several caves and holes in this area that are highly camouflaged due to the thick jungle undergrowth, so stay on the trail and stay safe.
Pause for the views and a little rest once you reach the mountaintop before beginning the descent back to the trailhead.
Reboard your coach for the return drive to the pier.
