Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Embrace the history, culture and flavours of Peru during this memorable, full-day excursion to the Pachacamac Pilgrimage Centre, along with lunch and a cultural show at a private hacienda. The temple site of Pachacamac is considered a powerful "magnetic" center by the Peruvian government, and has been studied by NASA engineers who deemed it one of several important worldwide solar temples exhibiting an unusual energy signature.
Larco Herrera Museum
Depart the pier for the 40-minute drive to Larco Herrera Museum. This museum is home to an extensive private collection of pre-Inca ceramics; it is probably the largest collection of its kind in the world. Founded in 1926, the Larco Museum showcases remarkable chronological galleries providing an excellent overview on 3,000 years of development of Peruvian pre- Columbian history. Located in a unique vice-royal mansion of the 18th century built over a 7th century pre-Columbian pyramid, the building is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Features the finest gold and silver collection from Ancient Peru and the famous erotic archaeological collection, one of the most visited Peruvian tourist attractions.
Pachacamac Pilgrimage Centre
Continue to the Pachacamac Pilgrimage Centre. Built around 700 A.D. as a temple for the worship of the sun god, Pachacamac, it is believed to be one of the main pilgrimage centres in pre-Columbian Peru, and on par with that of Cusco. Pilgrims flocked here from far away to worship Pachacamac, who was believed to be the creator of the world and its creatures.
Upon arrival, view painstakingly restored palaces, plazas and temples, and an on-site museum housing a collection of local relics. Some time is also made available for shopping and a comfort stop.
Private Hacienda, Lunch and Cultural Show
Next, re-board your coach and proceed to a local hacienda for a private lunch accompanied by a traditional Paso horse and Marinera dance show. Tastefully built and decorated in Republican style, this is the private home of a distinguished Lima family. Over the years, the owners have become famous as expert breeders of the Caballo de Paso horses, a breed unique to Peru.
After lunch, re-board your coach for the approximately 1.5-hour return drive to the pier.
