Excursion Sea kayaking and mussel boil tour at Halifax
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
The coastal terrain surrounding Nova Scotia’s Terence Bay is an exceptional area for exploring by sea kayak – and this guided adventure offers paddlers of any experience level the chance to glide through waters showcasing its pristine natural beauty.
Introduction & Safety Briefing
The boathouse you launch from sits an hour by coach south of Halifax pier, in tiny Terence Bay village at the southern tip of the Chebucto Peninsula. On arrival, a 30 to 45-minute briefing covers safety topics and basic training for those less familiar with sea kayaking. Split up into small groups and outfitted with single or double kayak, paddles, and floatation jacket, you’ll soon be ready to step into your watercraft and follow your guide out into a sheltered bay for a brief introduction to the techniques – and pleasures – of coastal paddling.
Kayaking Adventure
Now fully oriented, it’s time to take the plunge and begin communing with the sights and sounds of Nova Scotian nature. Over the next few hours, you’ll explore the picturesque bays and inlets of this region internationally recognized for its community-based approach to ecotourism.
With luck, you’ll spot some seals and a variety of other marine fauna. But, of course, wild nature follows its own rules, and every day’s outing is different. What never varies is the sense of wonder experienced by those who spend time out here.
Mussel Boil Lunch
Once back at the boathouse, quench your appetite – and rest your arms and shoulders – as you enjoy an authentic traditional mussel boil on the dock. After all, nothing says Nova Scotia like a bowl of tender, fresh-harvested mussels.
A 60-minutes drive back to Halifax cruise pier brings your coastal Canada adventure to a satisfying close.
